Villers St Paul

First, Villers-St-Paul was a rural domain and already existed. But it's in the XXth century that the town became important, in particular thanks to the chemical industry.

St Pierre et St Paul 's church

The church of Villers-St-Paul with its plan in “T” presents two distinct parts and testifies of two construction periods which allow us to follow the evolution of the religious architecture at an extremely fertile period in innovation : on one hand the nave and the sides, of romanesque style, built in 1130, and on the other hand, the transept, of Gothic style, built in 1225.

The industrial past of the town

In 1911, Villers-St-Paul was a rural commune of 903 inhabitants totally cut off from the industrialization movement which had affected the basin of Creil for about sixty years. Indeed, in 1914, the valley of the Thérain still constituted the industrial axis of the department and the valley of Oise, upstream of Creil, wasn't

very industrialized. In 1931, Villers-saint-Paul countted 2278 inhabitants, that is to say a progression of 152% in 20 years. The explanation for this demographic explosion in complete discord with the remainder of the department is in the establishment a chemical factory.

Indeed, Villers-saint-Paul is one of the districts of the Oise whose story is linked with that of a factory. The industrial past marks the streets of the city which gives it a timeless charm.
